General Chair of the SP, a party which is becoming one of the most popular in the run-up to the elections, Temel Karamollaoğlu, calculates that the AKP-MHP alliance stands at around 43-44 in percentage terms, while the opposition is on around 55-56, and the presidential election will make it into a second round. With the presidential candidates having become known and the opposition’s efforts against the AKP-MHP alliance continuing, I spoke to SP General Chair and presidential candidate Karamollaoğlu about his approach and predictions regarding 24 June. Karamollaoğlu imparted information about the parties’ and alliance blocks’ shares of the vote they had obtained from polling companies. The information Karamollaoğlu passed on about shares of the vote and his 24 June calculations are as follow:

-The questioning 8%: From the information we have been provided with, the AKP currently has a core vote of 24%. That is, this 24% of voters have definitely made their minds up and do not think of changing. This 24% will without fail vote for the AKP. So, as things stand, if the AKP gets the lowest vote, this will be 24%. Alongside the 24%, there is another 8% of the electorate. They, too, vote for the AKP but have begun to question. They have not yet abandoned the AKP but they are looking both at developments in the country and what other parties say. Their eyes are not closed. But, in the end, they are highly minded to continue voting for the AKP.

-The AKP’s limit is 38: Another six points need to be added to this. When we have done so, this means the AKP’s vote is in the 38% range. The picture I have formed also shows the AKP being at around 38%. In the alliance, there may be a 4-5-6 per cent vote from the MHP. With this vote that may come from the MHP, the AKP-MHP alliance appears to be on a vote in the 42-44% range.

-The target of 60% is not exaggerated: Looking at the ruling and opposition blocks, the opposition appears to have the upper hand by about 45-55. I do not think that the HDP has a threshold problem, either. Under these circumstances, I see the opposition securing a significant supremacy in parliament with it surpassing the ruling block by ten per cent. I have thus declared as the opposition that the target of 60% is the stated goal. That is, because I have seen in the course of the campaign that the opposition is capable of making it into the sixties per cent. Looking at the figures in the polls, the target of 60% is not exaggerated, but realistic.

-President in the second round: The polls show that support for Erdoğan is a little higher than support for the AKP. But, this does not deliver victory in the first round. So, I think that the presidential election will not end in 50%+1 in the first round and will go to a second round. I see things as being favourable for me, too, in the second round. I believe that an opposition figure will be elected in the second round. This is what I believe.

Kılıçdaroğlu very constructive and solution focused

Karamollaoğlu noted that he had had no long-time acquaintance with CHP Leader Kılıçdaroğlu and had become closely acquainted with him in the mutual series of talks among the opposition since the referendum. Karamollaoğlu, stating that in these talks he saw Kılıçdaroğlu “conduct himself in a way that respected, listened to and understood other ideas, sought solutions and facilitated the establishing of very good communications,” said, “This constructive and solution-focused demeanour has played a big role in the move forward the opposition has made.” Kılıçdaroğlu, too, sees Karamollaoğlu as “the leader he communicates best with” on the opposition.

 “This is an electoral alliance”

Felicity Party General Chair Temel Karamollaoğlu came to the Ankara Central Electoral Board Directorate building and signed for his own presidential candidacy at Çankaya Sub-Province Electoral Board No 3 where he is registered. Karamollaoğlu, making a statement to journalists on his exit following the signing procedure, remarked, “May it bode well. I have performed a duty. This is the first step. I hope the signatures will be collected speedily. Afterwards, campaigning will begin in full.” To the question of whether 100,000 signatures would be amassed that day, Karamollaoğlu responded, “We will be happy if it ends on Friday. Once 100,000 signatures have been gathered, they come as extras.” With reference to the alliance to be made with the CHP, Good Party and Democrat Party, Karamollaoğlu said, “The alliance business will in fact happen around now. This is an electoral alliance. In a sense, this step will be taken because the constitution compels the parties to do so. I also basically think this is a first step towards harmonious and peaceful cohabitation in the country. May it bode well.”
