SILENCE REIGNS
The AKP government has been incapable of mounting a response to Trump’s bans
ISLAMOPHOBIA FORGOTTEN
Ankara has opted to remain silent over US President Donald Trump’s order barring citizens of Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen from entering the country. Ankara, hopeful of making a fresh start with Trump, has forgotten all of the rhetoric it has voiced against Islamophobia for years.
‘IT IS UP TO THEM!’
In the absence of any written comment from the Foreign Ministry, no information has been forthcoming as to whether any initiative has been undertaken in the USA. With Prime-Minister Yıldırım fobbing off questions on the matter, the most astonishing reply has come from Minister of Justice, Bekir Bozdağ: ‘It is up to them.’
THE WORLD HAS NOT REMAINED SILENT
· French President Holland has called on all of Europe to unite against Trump.
· Italian Prime-Minister Paolo Gentiloni has said that his country is attached to the values of an open society and pluralistic identity.
· Iranian Foreign Minister Cevad Zarif has said that Americans will be welcomely accepted into the country.
Secretary-General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul-Gheit has expressed his ‘deep concerns’ over the ban.
