FEAR OF LOSING VOTES
The government has left certain troublesome measures affecting working life until after the referendum to avoid provoking discontent before the referendum. Amendments to severance pay, the ending of civil servants’ security of employment and making ‘contracts’ with subcontracted employees rather than permanent staff, to which unions are opposed, will be implemented after the referendum.
ELECTION INVESTMENTS
The AKP, which is postponing measures that are detrimental to the public at large, is immediately implementing measures that it thinks will get votes. Schemes that will win public support such as pension promotion payments and allowances for grandmothers who take care of children will be introduced before the April referendum.
