Indictment over Berkin Elvan's killing accepted
The indictment filed against a police officer in connection with Berkin Elvan's killing has been accepted, three and a half years after the event. The prosecution is calling for police officer F.D. to be sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence of ‘killing with possible intent’.
The investigation into the killing of Berkin Elvan, who was struck in the head by a gas cartridge on 16 June 2013 during disturbances that erupted in Okmeydanı in connection with the Gezi Park protests and lost his life in the hospital where he was being treated 269 days later, was completed last week by prosecutor İsa Dalgıç of Istanbul Republic Prosecution Civil Servants’ Crimes Investigation Office. The prosecution is calling for police officer F.D. to be sentenced to life imprisonment for the offence of ‘killing with possible intent’. The indictment, which has been approved by the Chief Prosecutor’s Office, has been accepted by Istanbul Serious Crime Court No 17 to which it was remitted. However, the court has yet to set the date for the hearing.
