You are not alone

In the letter, signed by world-known PEN-member writers, stating that there had been a heavy-handed crackdown against free expression in recent months in Turkey, the call was made: ‘Turkey must comply with its obligations to protect freedom of expression and human rights.’
PEN had the following message for the detained journalists and writers: ‘We are writing to you to let you know that you are not alone. We are writing to tell you that we will not stand idly by in your time of need. We will not be silent while your human rights are violated. We will raise our global voice against any effort to silence yours.’

GENDARMERIE HALT PEN INTERNATIONAL AT SİLİVRİ
PEN International’s largest ever delegation wished to make a press statement in front of Silivri Closed Prison yesterday. The PEN delegation was surrounded by the gendarmerie in front of the jail. While armed gendarmerie officers stood guard over the PEN members who had been bundled into vehicles, footage that had been taken was deleted by the gendarmerie. Following three hours of interrogation and security controls at three different points, the PEN delegation departed from Silivri.
