This is how those unable to protect people in the station slaughter are protecting the ISIL murder suspects
The trial into the 10 October Ankara Station Slaughter commenced today. The CHP’s Özgür Özel showed a photo of the hearing auditorium. In the photo, the defendants are hidden behind shields. Ten of the defendants’ lawyers have decided to withdraw from the trial.
cumhuriyet.com.trThe first hearing took place today in the trial of thirty-six people into the Ankara Railway Station slaughter in which a hundred people died. The trial of the thirty-six people in connection with the slaughter caused by two ISIL suicide bombers who mingled in with the crowd assembling for a peace rally will be heard at Ankara Serious Crime Court No 4. The hearing, which commenced at 10.00, is being held in the combined auditoriums of Ankara Serious Crime Courts No 10 and 11.
The trial is planned to last five days. In the trial, certain key figures such as ISIL’s leaders in Syria İlhami Balı, Deniz Büyükçelebi and Edremit Türe are on the run. The indictment calls for certain of the suspects to be sentenced to, apart from aggravated life sentences 101 times over for the crimes of “attempting to change the constitutional order” and “murdering 100 people”, jail terms totalling from 7,631 to 11,750 years for attempting to murder 391 people as part of the activity of a terrorist organisation and possession of unlicensed arms and explosives as part of the activity of a terrorist organisation.
As to other suspects, the call is made for them to be sentenced to from 15 years to 22½ years in jail for the crime of “membership of the armed DAESH terror organisation”. As to the investigation into the police officials who failed to take the necessary security precautions prior to the 10 October explosion, it was decided to drop the charges.

Among those monitoring the proceedings is the CHP Manisa MP Özgür Özel. Özel, pointing to a photo showing the barricade of shields around the area assigned to the defendants in the auditorium, indicated that the auditorium was packed for the Station Slaughter Trial and noted, “This is how those who did not protect our brothers and sisters on that day are protecting the ISIL murder suspects.”
“HAD SUCH SECURITY MEASURES BEEN TAKEN ON TIME”
The CHP’s Mahmut Tanal also showed a photo of the hearing auditorium. Tanal noted in the tweet in which he posted the photo, “Had such security measures been taken on time, there would have been no Ankara Station slaughter.”
A VISUAL AND SOUND PROBLEM OCCURRED
The thirty-six defendants charged in the trial into the station attack that left 102 people dead were lead into the hearing auditorium at about 10.00. A problem occurring in the visual sound connections delayed the start of the trial. At this, citizens in the auditorium voiced their annoyance at the trial not commencing.
TENSION AFTER A POLICEMAN SAID “THE FAMILIES ARE MAKING A SONG AND DANCE”
With one of rapid reaction force police officers in the auditorium alleging that, “The families are making a song and dance,” there was an outpouring of anger from the families and lawyers at the rapid reaction force police officers. A rapid reaction force police officer, who was alleged to have said, “The families are making a song and dance,” was removed from the hearing auditorium.
TEN DEFENCE LAWYERS HAVE WITHDRAWN
Ten lawyers representing defendants in the proceedings brought into the terror attack carried out in front of Ankara Station on 10 October have announced their wish to withdraw from the trial.
The Ankara Station trial is being held at Ankara Serious Crime Court No 4. The ten defendants’ lawyers, stating that they were appointed as the defendants’ lawyers by the bar association, said they were unable in all conscience to act as counsel for the defendants and had applied to withdraw from the trial. Conversely, five lawyers indicated that they had not withdrawn from the trial.
