With no congress resolution forthcoming from the CHP Central Executive Committee, Muharrem İnce and his team have set out to gather 630 signatures.

The talk in the political lobbies, however, is that the leadership disputes that have broken out in the CHP immediately after the 24 June elections have their roots in the local elections. Even though it is viewed as certain that İnce will take over as General Chair following Kılıçdaroğlu, his moving into action immediately after the elections has led to observations that he is also putting his own position at risk. With it noted that headquarters’ most important trump card for warding off an extraordinary congress is the short time remaining until the local elections, İnce and his team are said to be acting with haste so as not to risk potential loss in the local elections. According to the CHP rulebook, the official signature gathering process that is expected to start tomorrow requires the completion within fifteen days of the gathering of 630 signatures, the simple majority of delegates. If the required number is attained, an elective extraordinary congress can be embarked on within no more than 45 days.
