New images released in Berkin Elvan case

Berkin Elvan, a 15-year-old boy, suffered serious head injuries when a police teargas canister hit him in the head during the anti-government protests last summer. It was claimed that the boy was on his way to a local bakery at the time of the incident that took place in Okmeydani district of Istanbul and forced him into a coma of 269-day-long before he died in March this year.

A new video, revealing a group of policemen leaving the scene before firing a number of tear gas canisters, was shown to the press by Berkin Elvan’s father and the lawyer in the case in a press conference in Istanbul on Tuesday. “The killers are now obvious in these images” commented the lawyer Evrim Deniz Karatana, who called for an immediate draw up of an indictment accordingly.

Sami Elvan, Berkin’s father, shed tears during the press conference, and demanded for justice.
