At yesterday’s session of the Ankara massacre trial, the testimony of witnesses and the deceased’s relatives reduced everyone to tears. Victims recounted how, following the attack, the police fired gas canisters at the dead and injured, and did not assist. Cat calls directed at intervening parties by the accused Mehmedin Baraç sparked outrage in the courtroom.
The police jostled with Nabile Ozğan, who has lost her husband and attended the hearing with her two-year-old son. She said that the accuseds’ lawyers and police officers attacked and clubbed the families, saying, ‘Children of whores’ and ‘You’re terrorists.’ Lawyer Bek said, ‘We went through something like what was experienced on 10 October.’
