CHP presidential candidate Yalova MP Muharrem İnce has announced that he will visit HDP presidential candidate Selahattin Demirtaş, who is in detention in Edirne Prison, and the other opposition candidates.

Following his nomination as candidate by CHP Leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, İnce started his campaign in his home-city of Yalova. Apart from campaigning, İnce has embarked on steps of an embracing nature. İnce’s first meaningful step in this direction will be to visit the other presidential candidates who will contest the first round with him. In doing so, İnce will also visit detained HDP candidate Selahattin Demirtaş in Edirne Prison.

I will request appointments”

İnce announced his decision to visit the other candidates to Cumhuriyet. İnce remarked as follows on the decision:

“I am on the side of the election being conducted under equal, fair and free conditions. This is my understanding of democracy. I have no truck with alienating anyone. While starting the campaign, I will request appointments from the entirety of the presidential candidates situated on the opposition. I plan to visit both Doğu Perinçek and Meral Akşener and also Temel Karamollaoğlu. I contend that all candidates must stage a contest in a spirit of gentlemanliness, in an environment of free debate and under fair and equal conditions. It is also our duty to bring about a free contest in which Turkey’s problems are discussed.”

My involvement in politics goes way back”

On his candidacy being announced, İnce gave his CHP badge to Kılıçdaroğlu to betoken independence and a non-party presidency. İnce’s visits to the opposition parties’ presidential candidates will also be inspired by the same approach of independence and embracing all of society. İnce drove home this approach by saying, “Yes, I took off my party badge because I want to be the president of all Turkey. My current candidacy and the presidency require this. But, my involvement in politics goes way back, to when I was fifteen, and I side with the CHP. I side neither with the HDP nor the Good Party, I side with the CHP.”

İnce said that he had received very positive messages from various sections of society, not least CHP organisations. İnce, noting that great excitement had been engendered as of the first day, said this excitement would maintain an upward trajectory. İnce, thanking Kılıçdaroğlu and his party for his candidacy, made a bold claim about the election result:

“I will win this election. I see great interest from am all sections of society. We will take this election.”
