CHP Ankara Member of Parliament Ali Haydar Hakverdi described how the S.S. Yenişehir Ankara Residential Construction Cooperative set up by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality, Ankara Water and Sewerage Authority, ANFA and members of the senior judiciary made a killing on a plot of land the size of 19 football pitches in the heart of Ankara. He said that the 141,966 m2 plot with a one-kilometre street front between the city hospital built in Etlik and two malls underwent four zoning changes in the past eight years.
“At least one million lira”
Hakverdi, saying that the plot the size of 19 football pitches had its height restrictions lifted in 2016 and a development plan change was approved by AKP members for it to be used for residential, commercial and hotel purposes, described how the plot, whose true value was 2.5 billion lira, was sold for the price of 430 million lira to Söğüt Construction under a municipal resolution on 15 June 2017. Hakverdi, pointing out that this company landed virtually all of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality’s tenders, noted that Söğüt Construction later applied to the municipality and asked for the plot to be conveyed to S.S. Yenişehir Ankara Residential Construction Cooperative. Hakverdi, stating that the company made a contract for construction in return for a portion of the completed buildings with the cooperative, said, “2,500 residences will be built here and their value will be at least one million lira.”
