CRITICISM FROM EP PRESIDENT TAJANI

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani assessed the latest developments in Turkey when appearing on a TV programme. Tajani said that Turkey has been going in the opposite direction from Europe in recent years, particularly in matters of human rights and press freedom.

Tajani, saying that ‘For a journalist to be detained simply because what he or she has written causes displeasure is incomprehensible for us,’ responded to the presenter’s comment, ‘There are plenty of them, as well,’ with the comment, ‘I also used to do journalism in the past and I could have gone to jail, too.’
