The Good Party, which embarked on the election with the slogan “Turn your face to the sun” and contested the election in the Nation Alliance, surmounted the psychological ten per cent threshold even if it had no threshold concerns. Even though seven months had passed since its founding under Meral Akşener’s management following the congress crisis experienced in the MHP, it attained sufficient seats to form a group in parliament. However, it was notable that the party failed to take the expected vote from the MHP base and Akşener’s personal vote as a presidential candidate remained below the party’s vote.

According to the non-final election results that are said to have been presented in manipulated form by the Anadolu Agency, the Good Party will be represented with 46 MPs in parliament. According to the initial results, the Good Party, which secured seats for Democrat Party General Chair Güntekin Uysal, fielded as first-ranking candidate on the Good Party list for Afyonkarahisar and for three candidates in Antalya, won places in parliament for Akşener’s lawyer Feridun Bahşi and two further members. Good Party Deputy General Chair with Responsibility for Legal and Electoral Affairs İsmail Koncuk, who was fielded in first place in Adana, Deputy General Chair with Responsibility for Candidacy and Organisational Affairs Koray Aydın, who was fielded in first place in Ankara No 1 Region, Deputy General Chair Şenol Bal, who was fielded in second place in Ankara No 2 Region and Akşener’s economy staff member and former Central Bank Governor Durmuş Yılmaz, who was fielded in first place in Ankara No 3 Region, also entered parliament.

Deputy General Chair Adnan Sezgin, who was fielded in first place in Aydın and Süleyman Demirel’s doctor Aylin Cesur, who was fielded in first place in Isparta, became MPs on the Good Party list. The Good Party, which won eight seats in Istanbul, won places in parliament for Deputy General Chairs Hayrettin Nuhoğlu, Ümit Özdağ and Fatih Mehmet Şeker, Yeniçağ newspaper proprietor Ahmet Çelik and former Minister of State Ahat Andican. Actor Mehmet Aslan, conversely, was unable to secure election.

Disappointment in Izmir

The Good Party, which won only two seats in Izmir, gained parliamentary places for Deputy General Chair Musavvat Dervişoğlu in No 1 Region and Party General Secretary and Spokesperson Aytun Çıray in No 2 Region. However, journalist Mehmet Tezkan, wife of murdered academic Necip Hablemitoğlu, Şengül Hablemitoğlu, fielded in third place in Izmir No 3 Region, and folk poet Aşık Veysel’s granddaughter Çiğdem Özer fielded as candidate in fourth place in No 1 Region, did not enter parliament.

With Deputy General Chair Lütfü Türkkan, fielded as a candidate in first place in Kocaeli entering parliament, former colonel and Sledgehammer-trial victim Ali Türkşen failed to make it onto the list of MPS.

Deputy General Chair with Responsibility for Parliamentary and Political Affairs Kazım Ataoğlu fielded as a candidate in first place in Bingöl and former Minister of State Mehmet Salim Ensarioğlu, first-ranked parliamentary candidate in Diyarbakır were unable to secure election. It came as no surprise that the Good Party’s youngest candidate and last-ranking candidate in Bursa No 1 Region, Merve Asa, was unable to enter parliament.

Successful on the coast, but weak performance in Central Anatolia

Akşener and her team, who decided to form a party after the congress crisis in the MHP, was unable to secure the expected vote from the MHP. The Good Party, which saw votes swing to it in the coastal areas, fell well short of its targets in Central Anatolia.

The party’s failure to garner the vote that Akşener had expected from the AK Party base and the MHP in several regions led to the number of seats falling short of expectations. Expectations were dashed in a number of provinces where Akşener vowed she would gain seats in Central Anatolia that she referred to as the Seljuk Region.
