With the appearance of posters in which a gun is held at Santa Claus’s head, threats and comments by dervish orders, our paper’s reporter Ahmet Şık made a warning on his social media account at Twitter on 21 December 2016.

Ahmet Şık wrote, ‘This is not to be treated as a joke. It is worth noting that the Robe-Wearer’s warnings have a constant Christmas emphasis. It is worth being prepared.’ Ahmet Şık was arrested a week later on 29 December and subsequently remanded in custody.

Robe-Wearer Ahmet Hodja made the following comments on his Twitter account about New Year celebrations:

‘Why will I celebrate the infidel’s holiday! Do we have no holidays!? Do we not mark the anniversary of the birth of the prophet? Do we not mark the prophet’s ascent to heaven? Why do we always have to resemble them?’

‘If you celebrate the infidel’s holiday, God will set the infidels on you!’

‘For the sake of God, let us dissuade even one person to abandon this celebrating of Christmas! God forbid, once their faith has gone they will never get out of hell!’

‘Do you celebrate on the day your father’s murderer celebrates? Do not participate in your father’s murderers’, the enemies of religions’ celebrations. Do not celebrate Christmas!’
