Our journalist and reporter Ahmet Şık, remanded in custody due to his reporting and Twitter posts, was not permitted to speak to his lawyers for three days at Metris Prison to which he was taken. Şık’s experiences over this time came to light in the discussions he had with his lawyer on the sixth day of his detention at Silivri Prison. Şık said that he was held in Metris for three days in a cell with only a bed and was not given water.
NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE REINA ATTACK
The tough treatment meted out to Şık has taken the form of solitary confinement in Silivri. Şık, who is confined to a single-person cell, has no television or radio, and is denied newspapers and books. His lawyers, saying that Ahmet Şık lacks knowledge even of the Reina attack, said, ‘He heard about some kind of explosion from the warders, but has been unable to work out what it was. He is curious about the outside. He asked about what was going on outside.’
