News that, under a decree with the force of law set to come out in the next few days, raises will be made to judges’ and prosecutors’ wages according to their grades and, through this measure, first-class judges and prosecutors will receive raises of 2,700 lira has caused controversy. Civil servants, who received a raise of 81 lira in January, have called for an additional raise.
Civil Service Union General Chair Koncuk, noting that a similar raise was made three years ago, said, ‘It is a huge injustice for officials to devise a solution for 16,000 people in the public service and ignore the remaining 3,325,000 staff and 2 million retired.’
