Felicity Party (SP) was carrying out its election campaign to collect 100,000 signatures necessary for the party’s leader Temel Karamollaoğlu to become a presidential candidate in the June 24 elections when it was subjected to the attack.
Unknown assailants knocked the booth over and shouted slurs, before being detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning.
While the political atmosphere has been tense in Turkey in the days leading up to June 24 presidential and parliamentary elections, the attack on Felicity Party’s booth is a first in the current election process.
