Man shot in head allegedly by police in Istanbul

A man suffered critical injuries when he was shot in the head allegedly by the police during an anti-government demonstration in Istanbul. He was taken to hospital and reported to be in critical condition.

Uğur Kurt, a 30-year-old man, was shot in the head allegedly by the police near Okmeydani Cemevi (Alevi prayer place) in Okmeydani district of Istanbul on Thursday during the protest of 10-15 people who held a demonstration and chanted slogans about Soma mine disaster and Berkin Elvan.

An armoured police riot vehicle was attacked by Molotov cocktails before a police intervention started and the man was shot in the head. The shot man was taken to Okmeydani Training and Research Hospital, but reported to be in critical situation, while clashes continued in the area at the time of this report.
