Course of trials will alter following ByLock statement from Chief Prosecution

A statement made by Ankara Chief Republic Prosecution reads, “It has been established from the examinations conducted that 11,480 GSM subscribers with connections and parameters that display similar characteristics were involuntarily routed to ByLock IPs.” Ankara Republic Chief Prosecutor Yüksel Kocaman, indicating that if the sole evidence is involuntary routing to ByLock, the accused will be released, noted that the number one suspect in the ByLock investigation was former Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey employee Kemalettin Cengiz Erbakırcı.

Ankara Chief Republic Prosecution has made a statement about FETO’s encrypted message network ByLock.

In the statement made by Ankara Chief Republic Prosecution, it is said to have been determined that 11,480 innocent subscribers had been involuntarily routed to ByLock IPs. It is indicated in the statement that efforts to identify the wronged parties is continuing.

THE PURPOSE WAS TO DETRACT FROM THE STRUGGLE AGAINST THE ORGANISATION

With it noted in the statement that detailed examination conducted by the intelligence agency and Information and Communication Technologies Authority had led to the determination that certain GSM lines found to have had connections with application servers had been routed to the servers immediately before these connections by applications like “Purple Brain” that had been developed by FETO members, it was said, “It has been established from the detailed examinations conducted that 11,480 GSM subscribers with connections and parameters that display similar characteristics were involuntarily routed to ByLock IPs. The finding has been made that these subscribers were consciously routed to the bylock.net domain name by applications developed by organisation-member software developers for the purpose of hampering the identification of real ByLock users and detracting from struggle against the FETO/PDY terrorist organisation.”

THEIR LEGAL POSITION MUST BE ASSESSED WITH REFERENCE TO THE OTHER EVIDENCE

In the statement, in which it is noted that an investigation into the suspects who did this was continuing, it is stated that information about the 11,480 GSM subscribers whose connections have been established to have been made through technical routing had been imparted to the relevant bodies, and it went on to say, “In view of this information, the legal position of GSM subscribers who have been determined to have been routed unknowingly and involuntarily to ByLock servers must be assessed by investigating authorities with reference to the other evidence in investigation files. Ankara Chief Republic Prosecution is continuing its work with care.”

Ankara Republic Chief Prosecutor Yüksel Kocaman, assessing the decision, said, “ByLock is one of the biggest pieces of evidence for us. There is no change in this regard. We will call for the release of some one thousand people who have been identified as having been routed to ByLock through the Purple Brain software and who are in detention in various provinces, if there is no other evidence against them.”

THE NUMBER ONE SUSPECT IN THE INVESTIGATION IS KEMALETTİN CENGİZ ERBAKIRCI

Republic Chief Prosecutor Kocaman commented, “Kemalettin Cengiz Erbakırcı, who made the Purple Brain software, fled the country four days before the 15 July coup attempt. We think that former Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey employee Erbakırcı is one of the people with the greatest responsibility for this affair. We have initiated an investigation into this person and we have issued an apprehension order against him.”
